Notes
This stage and wharf is located on what is commonly known as Ben Day’s Beach in Champney’s West. It was built in 1942 by Harry Piercey and the original size was approximately 16 feet by 16 feet. The next year the length was doubled in order to accommodate a 28 foot long fishing boat, which was stored in the stage during the winter months. The stage was used in the commercial fishery until 1971 and has been used since then to store small amounts of fish for personal use. The stage and store were purchased by Otto Hookey in 1987.
