Dale Jarvis, Executive Director

Dale holds a BSc in Anthropology/Archaeology from Trent University, and an MA in Folklore from Memorial University. For many years he oversaw Heritage NL’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Office which helps communities to safeguard their traditional culture. Dale has contributed as a board member and volunteer to many local arts and heritage organizations. Former newspaper columnist, and author of several books, he is a tireless promoter of local traditions.

Andrea O’Brien, Municipal Outreach/Provincial Registrar 

A graduate of Memorial University, Andrea has a BA focusing on folklore, history, Newfoundland Studies, and English, a Bachelor of Education, and an MA in folklore. She serves as Heritage NL’s Register of Historic Places, Municipal Outreach Officer, Heritage Places Poster Contest coordinator, Historic Commemorations Program coordinator, and web manager. Andrea’s involvement in the heritage sector includes 8 summer seasons at the Colony of Avalon in Ferryland and student employment at MUN’s Folklore and Language Archives. She is also a founding board member of the Mummers Festival.

Terra Barrett, Intangible Cultural Heritage Program Planner

Terra holds a BA in Folklore and an MA in Public Folklore from Memorial University as well as a Social Media Certificate from Algonquin College. She is currently documenting untold histories, traditional skills, and the associated narratives of Newfoundland and Labrador’s historic places. Previously for Heritage NL, Terra conducted fieldwork in several communities, and worked with the Collective Memories Project and the Oral History Roadshow. She volunteers as the chair of Mummers Festival, and has experience working with MUNFLA, Them Days Inc., The Rooms, and Mummers Festival.

Eric Collins (F.I.C.B), Accountant 

Eric has a diverse background in banking and in government and private enterprise. He has worked with and has great familiarity with computer software and accounting packages. Eric is responsible for the maintenance of the day-to-day accounting of Heritage NL.

Juliet Lanphear, Built Structures Researcher

Juliet is a Memorial University of Newfoundland graduate, holding an MA in archaeology and a BA in archaeology and history. She also has a certificate in Ancient Worlds from MUN. She serves as the organizer for the Registered Heritage Structure plaque program.

Sarah Roberts, Heritage Researcher/Records Management Clerk

Sarah has an undergraduate degree in Archaeology and is working on finishing her Masters in Historical Archaeology. She is currently working on digitizing Heritage NL’s collection of Registered Heritage Structures. Previously for Heritage NL, she completed various historical research projects.
