New Bonaventure, NL

Fisheries Heritage Preservation Program

Description

Note: First picture taken after restoration, second picture taken before restoration.

This stage was built circa 1906-1916 by Richard John Wiseman in Delby’s Cove, now a resettled community, and was taken down and floated to New Bonaventure in 1960. The stage was first owned by Giles Miller, Bruce’s father, who used the building as a fishing stage before he gave up the inshore fishery to work on the Great Lakes. Bruce then took over the building. The stage was restored with assistance from the Fisheries Heritage Preservation Program.
