Heritage Value
The Joseph Bartlett House was designated a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1998 for its aesthetic value. The Joseph Bartlett House has aesthetic value as it is a good example of a type of salt-box construction in Conception Bay. The salt-box style is developed from a one and a half storey house with a linhay. This style of construction was one of the earliest house forms in rural Newfoundland and is said to resemble an 18th century salt-box. The Joseph Bartlett House is a later take on this earlier style. The structure is also architecturally interesting for its balloon frame construction and the mortise and tenon construction of its windows.
