Heritage Value
The Joseph Bartlett House was designated a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1998 for its aesthetic value.
The Joseph Bartlett House has aesthetic value as it is a good example of a type of saltbox construction in Conception Bay. The saltbox style is developed from a one-and-a-half storey house with a linhay. This style of construction was one of the earliest house forms in rural Newfoundland and is said to resemble wooden boxes used to store salt. The two-and-a-half storey Joseph Bartlett House is a later take on this earlier style. The structure is also architecturally interesting for the asymmetrical placement of the windows and door on front facade.
