Description
The Mosquito School House is a wooden, one-room, one storey hip roofed building. Constructed between 1818 and 1828 it is located on the main access road to Bristol’s Hope, NL. The designation is confined to the footprint of the building.

Mosquito School House was designated a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1988 because of its historic and aesthetic value.
Mosquito School House has historic value because of its associations with early education in Newfoundland. Built by the Colonial and Continental Church Society (Newfoundland School Society) under the direction of a Rev. Kingwell, the building was used as a school for more than one hundred years. Mosquito School House is a reminder of the formative days of organized education in the region.
Mosquito School House has aesthetic value as its design and construction provide a rare example of how wooden schools were built during the nineteenth century in outport Newfoundland. This simple one-room design was a trend in school construction well into the twentieth century.
