Woody Point Lighthouse has been designated a municipal heritage site by the Town of Woody Point due to its aesthetic value.
Woody Point Lighthouse has aesthetic value due to its environmental setting. Visible from many vantage points both in the community and from the waters of Bonne Bay, the lighthouse is an easily recognized landmark. It is such a well-known landmark in the region that it has become a defining point in the community’s identity. A stylized image of the lighthouse is featured in the town’s logo.
The lighthouse has further aesthetic value as it is a representative example of a particular style of lighthouse once common along the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Although it is rather subdued in scale and ornamentation, this simplicity speaks to a concern for function and results in a simple yet dignified facade.
