Notes
These buildings were part of the business McDonald Sons and Co. Ltd. owned by the McDonald family of Goose Cove. The business in Croque was managed by Vergus Reardon. The smallest building was built in 1935 as a shop in Southwest Croque and was towed to its current location in 1959. It was then used to store salt. The two-storey building was built in 1956 using local lumber and hand hewn beams. The second floor was used as a general store and salt fish records office until 1974. The first floor was used to store dried salt fish in summer and to store non-perishable food and dry goods in winter. The third building was built in 1960 using materials salvaged from an old fish store at Southwest Croque. A crusher was used here to crush arctic ice used to pack fresh salmon. Once the salmon season was over, the floor would be covered with cardboard and dried salt fish was stored here. During the winter it was used to store drums of stove oil, diesel fuel and gasoline. All three buildings were purchased by Francis Reardon in the late 1970s.
