Heritage Value

6 Howley Avenue has been designated a Municipal Heritage Building by the City of St. John’s because of its aesthetic values. 6 Howley Avenue is an early twentieth-century example of a Queen Anne Revival styled duplex. It features two-storey bay windows with pediments, decorative wood shingles and a covered/opened porch with decorative spindles. This house has wooden eaves brackets and the pedimented dormer has a starburst design on it.

Character Defining Elements

All those elements of the Queen Anne Revival design, including;

-narrow wooden clapboard;

-size, shape, decoration and placement of windows;

-original entrance with shelf trim and transom;

-starburst design on pedimented dormers;

-decorative bracketing on eaves, and;

-red brick chimneys.

Duplex related home, front porch and stairs joined with #8. Double pot chimney. Two apartments, bay window with cedar shingling at both levels. New front door and screen door.
