Notes
This property was used as a summer and fall fishing premises. The Cadwell family fished for cod, salmon, trout, herring, mackerel, herring and seals. The family moved from Charlottetown to Square Islands every spring, returning in the late fall. This was a family fishery that included parents, children and sharemen. At one time Square Islands was a vibrant fishing community dating back to the earliest settlers to the Labrador coast. Over 20 families lived here at the height of the cod fishery. Also, many fishermen from the island of Newfoundland came to and through the harbour during the summer floater fishery.
